Glossary

Much like Bill Simmons, I use terms and acronyms that the casual reader might need guidance with. Here are some of them, along with their origins and definitions.

MCFFLOAT – Most Competitive Fantasy Football League of All Time. A Fantasy Football league I was in for two years with people who actually worked in sports. It was daunting, intimidating – and when I did well, I felt that much better about myself.

The Trifecta – I have three most favorite athletes of all time. Steve Young, quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers; Gabe Kapler, outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers (late of the Red Sox); and the FWNICM. Collectively, they are referred to as “The Trifecta.” Athletes that exist on the close outskirts include Jason Bay, Mark Brunell, and Justin Armour.

My Partner In Crime – My fiance, Chris, who first was mentioned as my “Fantasy Football Confidant” back in 2004. He’s cute. He likes baseball and hockey. He also came up with a wicked funny “Hockey East Annual Awards List” that I keep promising to post at some point.

Everyone’s Favorite Goalie – John Curry, goalie for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and former all star goalie for Boston University. He’s the Rudy of goalies – walk-on goalie becomes Hockey East MVP, undrafted goalie gets a chance due to injuries and call-ups through the season to lead the Penguins to the Calder Cup finals. Trademark – throwing himself in the air to make a crazy, otherwise unmakeable save.

The Steve Quarterbacks – My dad is named Steve, and is obsessed with any football player, especially quarterbacks, who share his first name. In the early to mid 1990s, there were a ton of Steve Quarterbacks, which is how young me was introduced to the hotness that is Steve Young. Members of the Steve Quarterbacks include Young, Steve McNair, Steve Beuerlein, Steve DeBerg, Steve Bono. Steve Tasker, although he was a WR/KR, is an honorary member of the Steve Quarterbacks because he is my father’s most favorite football player ever. A few years ago I even made my father a plaque with all of the Steve Quarterbacks and their stats.

FWNICM – The Forward Whose Name I Cannot Mention or Forward Whose Name I Shall Not Mention.
